Rappahannock County, Virginia

Just 65 miles from the bustling metropolis that is Washington D.C., Rappahannock county feels worlds away. Nestled in the foothills of the majestic blue ridge mountains, this quiet, picturesque world offers a glimpse back in time. Neighbors gather . The landscape remains largely unspoiled thanks to the numerous large estates and lack of commercial enterprise.

You won't find a McDonald's in Rappahannock county, but the dining opportunities offered here are far superior. Rappahannock is home to several restaurants including the Flint Hill Public House and the Griffin Tavern. The most notable, however, is the world renowned Inn at Little Washington - fine dining at its best. "The Inn" is considered by some to be among the top restaurants in the world.

Virginia is known as "horse country" for good reason. Rappahannock county is one of several counties where the horse industry reigns supreme. Steeplechase races (See Thornton Hill Races), fox hunting, polo matches and horse shows abound.

While California has long been thought of as the American wine region, Virginia is fast becoming a contender for the title. Rappahannock county has several vineyards including Sharp Rock and Gray Ghost Vineyards.
